What should you check before choosing an online tutoring academy?

Check whether the tutor understands the exact course, can explain a difficult idea clearly and lets the student try a fresh question independently. Confirm lesson times in Qatar time, the price in QAR, lesson duration and payment terms. An academy name alone tells you less than these details and a useful trial.

1. Identify the course, not just the subject

“Maths” could mean primary number work, IGCSE algebra, A-Level calculus or IB Mathematics AA or AI at SL or HL. Share the year or grade, board, syllabus or specification code and exam year when you have them.

For English, specify Language or Literature and any set texts. For science, tell us whether the course is a separate subject or part of a combined course. Your school’s topic list can be more useful than a broad curriculum label.

The IB’s mathematics course overview and your exam board’s current syllabus are useful references. Confirm the course with your school if you are unsure.

2. Bring one attempt to the trial

Bring an attempted question, paragraph or recent assessment. A tutor can see whether the difficulty is the idea, the calculation, the language in the question or how to present the answer.

After an explanation, ask the student to try a similar question with one changed detail. Notice whether they can explain their reasoning, ask a question comfortably and use the method independently. Finishing a worksheet is less informative if the tutor supplied every step.

3. Ask about the tutor’s course experience

Ask which course and level the tutor has taught, how they would start with your child’s current difficulty and how practice will follow the school’s requirements. If qualifications or results matter to you, ask to see relevant evidence and how it relates to this subject.

A tutor who teaches a similarly named course may still need to check the board, paper or set text. Confirm those details before booking a regular schedule.

4. Agree a manageable weekly plan

Say whether the aim is to repair a foundation, understand current classwork or prepare for an approaching assessment. Ask what the student should practise between lessons and how you will discuss progress.

Use Qatar time, UTC+3, when confirming appointments. State the days, lesson start time and duration explicitly. If the tutor is in another country, confirm whether their own clock changes affect the agreed slot.

5. Compare the full lesson arrangement

Find Tutor quotes the lesson rate for the subject and level when arranging tuition. Ask for the agreed price, duration, schedule and payment arrangement before starting regular lessons. See our terms and ask about anything that is unclear.

Questions from parents in Qatar

How do I know whether online tuition will suit my child?

Use a trial to observe the explanation, the student’s opportunity to ask questions and a fresh independent attempt. Discuss the pace and learning goal before committing to a regular plan.

Does Find Tutor have a physical tuition centre in Doha?

Find Tutor serves students in Qatar remotely through online one-to-one lessons. These pages describe online tuition.

Can we request lessons for more than one subject?

Yes. List the subjects and courses in the request. We discuss the tutor match and schedule for each subject rather than assuming one tutor covers everything.

Is a UK tutor automatically the right fit for a Qatar school?

Check the exact course and assessment requirements. The tutor’s relevant experience and the way they explain the student’s current work matter more than location alone.
